Choices for Asphalt Maintenance

Asphalt maintenance will keep your asphalt sturdy and lasting for decades. Crackfilling and sealcoating will extend the life of your asphalt pavement and keep it looking great. By preventing water infiltration, these invaluable routine maintenance steps prevent the main cause of pavement deterioration.

If your existing driveway looks rundown but still has a sturdy foundation with good structural integrity, resurfacing your asphalt parking lot, roadway, or driveway may be the best option. This economical choice removes only the top layer of asphalt and lays down fresh asphalt over the existing base. It costs less than a complete replacement because it is not as labor-intensive and requires less material.

Options for Pothole Repairs

Two main methods of asphalt patching for potholes exist. Potholes can be repaired with cold patch or hot asphalt. A cold asphalt patch can be installed in any temperature year-round but it is often only a temporary fix. Cutting and patching with hot asphalt is advised for a more permanent solution if the weather conditions are conducive.

Cold mix asphalt patches can be used anytime and do not require asphalt plants to be open. It is perfect for repairing potholes in the winter and preventing more extensive damage from water infiltration and freeze-thaw cycles.

Permanent repairs with hot mix asphalt involve:
  • Removing some surrounding pavement.
  • Laying down a new layer of gravel for the base.
  • Pouring new hot asphalt on top.
When done skillfully, it will seamlessly blend in with existing asphalt.

Our Repair Services

Pothole Repair

Picture
Potholes are one of the most common types of asphalt pavement damage. When water seeps through cracks in the pavement, it causes the ground underneath to erode. Asphalt pavement over these eroded areas are subject to damage from passing traffic. Potholes should be repaired as soon as possible to prevent further damage to the pavement.

When your existing asphalt driveway or parking lot develops potholes, call us! We provide long-lasting asphalt repair done the right way that you can trust. A reliable fix like cutting and patching addresses the underlying issue that caused the pothole.

Asphalt Resurfacing

Asphalt resurfacing, aka “mill and overlay,” is a cost-effective option for repaving asphalt surfaces at a fraction of the cost of asphalt replacement. Resurfacing keeps the foundation intact, removes a thin top layer of asphalt, and overlays it with fresh hot asphalt. This removes small cracks, corrects uneven surfaces, and more.

It is an economical method of repairing widespread damage and refreshing old asphalt without paying for asphalt replacement. An overlay also greatly improves the appearance and extends the life of an aging driveway or parking lot.

Crack Repair

Another common asphalt repair needed is crack repair. Cracks can form in asphalt for various reasons, including weather damage, wear and tear, and poor drainage. If left unaddressed, cracks will continue to grow and eventually cause the pavement to crumble. As with potholes, cracks should be repaired as soon as possible to prevent further damage.

We repair cracks with high-quality materials that will prevent water and debris infiltration. Sealing static cracks with asphalt material and filling dynamic cracks with a rubberized flexible crack filler will help extend the life of your asphalt. Both are essential elements in asphalt maintenance.

Asphalt Seal Coating

In addition to asphalt repair, NC Paving Pros also offers sealcoating services to protect your pavement from weather damage and wear and tear. Sealcoating is a process in which a protective layer of material is applied to the pavement’s surface. This layer helps to protect the asphalt from moisture, sunlight, and other elements that can cause it to deteriorate. Sealcoating also makes it easier to clean your pavement and keeps it looking new for longer. Asphalt sealer benefits include:
  • Reducing the amount of water that seeps into the pavement
  • Slowing the oxidization process
  • Making it easier to remove dirt, oil, and other stains
  • Preventing cracks and other forms of damage
